200 MPH On A Motorcycle? Sure, Why Not?

I have had the urge to get a motorcycle for the last 2 weeks or so and my wife doesn't think it's such a good idea. With 2 kids depending on me, I can't say that I disagree with her... BUT!

That brings me to a bigger question I have: why is it that men always want to do something dangerous? We want to fly planes, jump out of planes, be police officers, firemen, fight, play football, etc... If danger is attached to something, we want a part of it!

I wonder why that is. We start this from little kids. People don't have to teach us to jump off of roofs, ledges, or fences, we just come pre-programmed to do such things. It's not like we have a death wish or anything, we just thrive on danger.

Why is that?

For the most part, we don't want anybody to get hurt. I don't think it's an "evil" thing. Just look at what missionaries do; go into foreign countries, preach the gospel, give out Bibles even if it means their lives! There is nothing more dangerous or noble than that.

I would love to hear a sermon with some answers to this question. Anybody?

  1. My son, Chris, was afraid of everything. He was an iron worker apprentice when he was 18. He came to know the Lord around that time and realized that there was no need to fear death. When I come home my dogs practically scratch through the door when they hear me because their master is on the other side of that door. Our master is on the other side of the door of death. I don't understand the fear. And Chris, he is afraid of nothing now. After his baptism he went back to iron work with no fear of heights. In emergencies he's walked 6 inch parapet walls with a drop of 12 ft off one side and 50 on the other. And he's ridden his motorcycle up to 160. Many of these things are necessary for work to get done. Some are just for fun. Regarding who one might be leaving behind should a tragedy happen, I submit that the same Master who has the power to save us also has the power to take care of our family members once we are gone. Just my opinion.
